In 1961 Derek Marlowe, who had played the lead in "Summer and Smoke", got really creative and wrote a play specially for us. He adapted a short story by Leonid Andreyev -- a sombre tale of capital punishment called The Seven Who Were Hanged. The 60 Theatre Group set off for the Edinburgh Fringe once again,

this time crashing in another, smaller, flat owned by the University. By this time Frank Evans and Dickie Gaskell were married and, again, they did all the legwork. We were a SENSATION at Edinburgh that year -- and mostly not because of our theatrical talent, although that was noted. See below. I was REALLY chuffed about the New Statesman review.
